NBA: KING OF THE COURT Set to Rule the World on Mobile
Ogmento Brings the NBA to Mobile As a Free-To-Play, Location-Based Social Game
LOS ANGELES – Dec. 1, 2011 – Ogmento, Inc., a leading global publisher of location-based, augmented reality mobile games, today announced that NBA: King of the Court is now available worldwide for download on iOS or Android devices, encouraging mobile gamers to “Rule the Courts, Rule the World.” NBA: King of the Court is the first mobile app to adapt a major league sports franchise into a free-to-play, location-based online game.
“NBA: King of the Court represents a major milestone for Ogmento, the NBA and the mobile gaming industry overall,” said Brian Selzer, President and Co-Founder of Ogmento. “Our game will serve as the ideal complement for NBA fans who want to find new ways to enjoy basketball anytime and anywhere.”
In NBA: King of the Court, virtual basketball courts have been placed in real locations throughout the world, with players using the camera and GPS built into their smartphones to locate courts in their vicinity. In a unique combination of Augmented Reality and location-based gameplay, players compete for the high score on these virtual basketball courts, vying for control and the title of “King of the Court.” Players can earn or purchase additional in-game “coin” with each victory and use it to increase the frequency of their shots, obtain offensive or defensive power-ups, and customize the courts they control with logos from their favorite NBA teams. In addition, players who control their local courts get the opportunity to compete on “Royal Courts” for control of the world.
NBA: King of the Court has been designed as a perfect casual game experience for NBA fans around the globe, combining the instant recognition of the NBA’s teams with the immediacy of pick-up-and-play game design. Players compete with each other to dominate courts in their neighborhoods, providing a constantly changing landscape within the game that encourages competitive game play and real-world strategy. Ogmento will be providing a stream of updates to the game over time, including weekly “Challenges,” time-based “Season” competitions, and location specific promotional partners that will give added value to in-game Super Courts.
